Introduced by SEBI in April 2025 โ still largely undiscovered. SIFs sit between the familiar world of mutual funds and the more exclusive domain of PMS, with greater strategic flexibility and a โน10 lakh minimum.
Schedule a Conversation โA Specialised Investment Fund is a SEBI-regulated investment product introduced under the mutual fund framework but with significantly greater strategic flexibility. Where conventional mutual funds are largely restricted to long-only positions, SIFs allow fund managers to deploy long-short strategies across equity, debt, and hybrid formats โ strategies previously available only in PMS or AIF structures.
The minimum investment is โน10 lakh per investor at the PAN level. This places SIFs meaningfully above the retail mutual fund entry point, but well within reach compared to the โน50 lakh required for PMS. SIPs, SWPs, and STPs are permitted, provided the minimum threshold is maintained.
Only distributors certified under NISM Series-XIII are authorised to advise on and distribute SIFs. Vikalpa Finvest holds this certification.
"SIFs are for the investor who has outgrown standard funds but isn't chasing complexity for its own sake โ someone who wants professional management with more room to manoeuvre." โ Vikalpa Finvest
SIFs carry a limited track record by definition โ the category is less than two years old. What we can evaluate is the underlying strategy, the fund manager's history across other vehicles, and whether the risk-return profile serves your specific portfolio goals.
We will not place you in a SIF because it is novel. We will consider it when it is genuinely the right instrument for where you are in your investment journey.
